AN INTRODUCTION:
Founded in 1953, The Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE) is a leading professional society devoted to the advancement of Electronics, Telecommunications, Information Technology and other related disciplines.
Government of India, Ministry of Science and Technology, Department of Science & Industrial Research has recognised IETE as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (SIRO) and the Institution has also been notified as an Educational Institution of National Eminence by the Government of India.
THE OBJECTIVES OF THE INSTITUTION INCLUDE:
1> Promote and conduct basic engineering and continuing technical education programmes for human resources development.
2> Provide a forum for discussion on national policies and to provide suitable inputs to policy makers.
3> Organise conferences, symposia and workshops involving all concerned professionals, students and industry associations for the advancement of the Discipline.
4> Stimulate research and development in the Discipline
5> Bring out quality publications for all levels of readership.
6> Honour outstanding professionals.
7> Facilitate inter-disciplinary interaction with other organizations and individuals within and outside the country for the promotion of the Discipline.
IETE STUDENTS’ FORUM :
Objectives:
The IETE students’ forum shall be set up at each major recognized Engineering college/ university, with the assistance and involvement of senior faculty members of the institution. The IETE centre in the region shall provide support and coordination in the establishment and the working of the forum.
The IETE students’ forum shall have the following broad objective:
• To plan and organized technical programmers and activities. Such as, special lectures, workshops, seminars, symposia, exhibition etc. for the benefit of the student members on a regular basis:
• To provide a common platform for the student members to exchange ideas and information on the topics of their interest e.g. curriculum, employment/higher educational opportunities, emerging trends, new development etc;
• To facilitate technical visits/practical training/project world employment of the student members in R & D laboratories, industries, academic institutions etc;
• To encourage team work and the spilt of self-reliance among the student members;
• To serve as a focal point at the institution on all aspects of professional development of the student members.
Membership:
The IETE offers a variety of membership grades from Student Member to Honorary Fellow. As members progress over the years they become eligible for more advanced membership classification.
The members of the IETE students’ forum shall pay the following one time membership fee for their membership while studying at the college/polytechnic.

This consolidated subscription will be refunded along with the application form. The minimum required membership strength for opening the IETE Students’ Forum in any Institution is 50, either student (FG) or Student (ED).
Nomenclature:
• Student (D) : Preparing for DIPIETE
• Student (C) : Preparing for AMIETE
• Student (FG) : Belonging to IETE Students’ Forum at Engg. Colleges.
• Student (ED) : Belonging to IETE Students’ Forum at Polytechnics
Students after passing their Degree Exam. will become proud corporate Members of IETE and can write after their name BE. AMIETE, with less fees. (Deducting the fee paid for Forum).

1> Honorary Fellow (HF) A coveted honour conferred on eminent persons who have made exceptional contribution to the discipline.
2> Distinguished Fellow (DF): Highest class of elected membership; only IETE Fellows eligible for nomination election
3> Fellow (F) Based on professional competence and recognition
4> Fellow (M) Demonstrated by academic qualificatidfls and work experience.
5> Associate Member (AM) Based on pass in AMIETE or equivalent Engg Degree.

Its very clear from the objectives of the institution that it has been working remarkably well for the growth and development of its members. However certain benefits worth mentioning are:
IETE offers access to latest developments in the technology via conferences, workshops, publications and brain-storming sessions.
Members have access to various facilities provided by the institution viz. Annual Technical Convention, international seminars, Zonal Seminars, Exhibitions, Symposia, Contact Programmes, Round Table Conferences, Opportunity to refer technical papers in libraries, Opportunity to publish and review technical papers, Academic-industry interaction and so on. Institution also provides various awards and supports research work.
Not to forget institution offers M.Tech in various disciplines related with electronics, communication and information technology.
